Road Department

The Road Department maintains the Grand County Class B Road System for the public to have access and be able to enjoy the many varied activities that are available. From the top of the Book Cliffs to the red-rock canyons to the LaSal Mountains, there are approximately 5100 miles of roads in the County including State Highways, city streets, reservation roads, and private roads. The Department maintains 1385 miles of these roads; 179 miles of paved, 148 miles of graveled, and the remainder natural materials. In addition to the road surface all associated structures (bridges, culverts, signs, etc) are also maintained. The Road Department is funded by fuel taxes paid at the pump.

The Department also maintains the Spanish Valley Drainage system. In addition to clean-up and maintenance work, this involves building flood control structures as defined by the Grand County Storm Drainage Master Plan that was adopted in 1997.
