Treasurer |
It is the main function of the Treasurer to bill and collect property taxes. Once the property tax is collected, the Treasurer’s Office is responsible for distributing the tax revenues to all the taxing entities, such as the school district, municipalities, special service districts, and local districts. This office maintains an accounting of the receipts and expenditures of all such money. It is also the responsibility of the Treasurer to bring to the attention of the County Council any problems or special requests regarding tax revenue money. As such, the Treasurer handles property tax abatements related to special populations such as seniors, veterans, blind or indigent citizens. The Treasurer is the investment officer of the County and handles all the monies collected through the Clerk’s, Assessor’s, Recorder’s Departments, and other departments in the County.
