Baby and Toddler Challenge

GCPL Winter 2021 - Baby _Toddler

Baby and Toddler Winter Reading Challenge

(birth to 35 months)

January 4th - February 28th

List of online children’s library events (live and recorded)!

This winter reading challenge is for parents/caregivers and their babies, ages birth to 35 months. Preparing your child to learn how to read begins at birth! Experts recommend reading to your child 15 minutes every day starting when they are born. Reading aloud to a child is the single most important factor in a child’s interest in reading and their readiness to learn to read when they start school.

To complete this winter reading challenge you will read to your child for a total of 8 hours between January 4th - February 28th. If you read just 15 minutes a day, 4 times a week, you will complete this challenge before the end of February! You can do it!

When you register for this challenge you will earn a coupon for a free 8oz hot cocoa from Lop’s Pop Stop.  And when you complete the challenge you will receive a gently used picture book and a coupon for a free bread twist from Domino's Pizza! All reading rewards are subject to availability/while supplies last.

You can log your reading minutes on our reading challenge website  or using our reading challenge app. Each time your total logged reading minutes reaches another full hour, you will earn a new virtual reading badge.

You can earn additional virtual badges by completing fun and easy early learning activities (Read! Talk! Write! Play! Sing!) and continuing to read to your child and log minutes after you reach the 8 hour goal. Our early learning activities are designed to share simple and quick practices you can incorporate into your daily life. These activities will help your child develop some of the skills they will need to succeed when they start school.
