Birth to Pre-K Tails & Tales Summer Challenge

(birth to 4 years)

June 1st - August 15th

List of online children’s library events (live and recorded)!

This online summer challenge is designed for parents/caregivers and their little ones ages birth - 4 years old. Preparing your child to learn how to read begins at birth! Experts recommend reading to your child 15 minutes every day starting when they are born. Reading aloud to a child is the single most important factor in a child’s interest in reading and their readiness to learn to read when they start school.

Everyone who accepts this challenge and registers will receive a coupon for a free donut from The Donut Shop on Center Street (while supplies last)!

To complete this summer challenge you will read to your child for a total of 8 hours between June 1st - August 15th. If you read 15 minutes a day, 4 times a week, you will complete this challenge before the end of July! You can do it!

You can log your reading minutes on our summer challenge website or using our summer challenge app (see directions below). Every time your total reading minutes logged reaches another hour (up to 8 hours) you earn a virtual reading badge and a toy or book for your child.

You can also earn virtual badges and tickets for our end of the summer special prize drawings by watching recorded storytimes, completing fun and easy early learning activities, and continuing to read to your child and log minutes after you reach the 8 hour goal. The end of the summer prize drawings include animal themed books and toys.

Starting June 7th, the library will be giving away FREE Animal themed Summer Challenge Activity To Go Bags!  These bags are geared towards preschool - early elementary age children, but toddlers may also enjoy them with lots of help from a caregiver. Click here for more details!

All reading rewards and activity bags are subject to availability/while supplies last.
