[ARCHIVED] High Speed Pursuit

On February 8, 2018 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a deputy with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle reported driving recklessly. The deputy and suspect vehicle were at milepost 122 and northbound towards Moab when the vehicle failed to stop for the deputy. The deputy pursued the vehicle northbound with lights and sirens activated where speeds approached 100 mph. The suspect vehicle turned off of SR 191 and onto Millcreek Drive. The pursuit continued on Millcreek Drive until its intersection with 400 E. where the suspect vehicle continued North on 400 E. A second and third Grand County Deputy became involved in the pursuit as the suspect vehicle turned onto 400 E. The pursuit continued as the vehicle turned west onto 100 N. and then North on 200 E. The suspect vehicle then slowed down and a passenger exited the vehicle. The passenger was detained and subsequently arrested on an outstanding warrant. The suspect vehicle continued North on 200 E. where it collided with two Grand County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles near the intersection of 200 N. The driver at that time was taken into custody with the assistance of Moab City Police Officers. There were no injuries sustained by deputies as a result of that collision and damage to their vehicles was minimal. The Utah Highway Patrol investigated the accident part of this incident. Both suspects were booked into the Grand County Jail with the suspected driver charged with numerous traffic and criminal offenses.
