On 04/06/2015 at 1:51 p.m., Grand County Dispatch received a call of an ATV accident on the Hell’s Revenge Trail, east of Moab. Grand County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Search and Rescue responded to the call. Classis Lifegaurd Helicopter out of Moab was also dispatched to the scene.
Karen Johnsen of Millbank, South Dakota was driving an ATV on the Hell’s Revenge Trail when attempted to climb an obstacle in the area known as the “Hot Tubs”, the ATV she was driving rolled on top of her. Ms. Johnsen was not wearing a helmet and suffered life threatening injuries. Ms. Johnsen was flown by helicopter to Moab Regional Hospital where she passed away as a result of the injuries suffered in the accident. Ms. Johnsen was in a private group and not part of any professional ATV tours.
Hell’s Revenge Trail is the most popular 4-whell drive trail in the Moab Area and is located a couple of miles east of Moab and is part of the Sand Flats Recreation Area.
