NATURE OF INCIDENT: Brush fire DATE: 04/13/2015 DAY OF WEEK: Monday
LOCATION OF OCCURANCE: Mile marker 7, Hastings Road, Greenriver, Utah

NAME: Weston Frank Vetere AGE 25 HOMETOWN & STATE Greenriver, Utah

OTHER FACTS OR COMMENTS:. On Monday, 13th of April a report of a fire on Hastings Road near Swasey Beach was called in to Grand County Dispatch. Greenriver Fire Department, BLM Fire Crews and Grand County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area.
The fire was located at approximately mile marker 7 on the west side of Hastings Road and on private property.
The fire had burned approximately 30-40 acres of old growth Cottonwood trees and other brush and trees in the area. The fence had also been destroyed in the area of the fire. Several structures were threatened, but were not damaged.
A vehicle was located near where the fire had originated. The vehicle had become stuck when the driver had attempted to turn around on the hillside. The driver of the vehicle was located and told law enforcement that he had started a fire as a signal for help.
Weston Vetere was arrested and booked into the Grand County Jail on suspicion of Arson.
Fire crews stayed on scene and continued suppression efforts and monitoring of the fire. One fire fighter sustained burns when he stepped into a hole created by a burned out stump and was transported to Moab Regional Hospital.
