Cole Cloward was elected to the Governing Committee of the Emerging Leaders Membership Council (ELMC) of the International Code Council (ICC) at the Annual Business Meeting in Richmond in October. The ELMC is geared toward new and young code officials who are under 35 or have less than 10 years of experience in the profession. The ELMC was created 3 years ago because of a growing concern that not enough young people are entering the profession. The average age of code officials nationwide is 55. This is a major concern for the ICC because many professionals will be retiring and there are no replacements. The ELMC’s primary drive is to help bring attention to the younger generation about careers in the building profession through social media and the ICC’s high school and college training programs. Cole was chosen from a pool of applicants on the national level and it is an honor for a small town code official to be placed on such a committee.
